WEDNESDAY'S WORD - SECURITY - 05/25/16 - Sadell Bradley - New Life Covenant Cincinnati

SECURITY means the state of being free from danger or threat. It is the safety of a person, state or organization against criminal activity such as terrorism, theft, or espionage, or procedures put in place to ensure that safety. Security is the state of feeling safe, stable and free from fear or anxiety  The Latin securas means "free from care." We spend time, money and energy on making our homes and possessions secure with locks, keys, passwords, identity theft services, etc.  We've lined up savings, retirement, long-term care and other insurances to protect us against possible eventualities. We work to make sure our marriages and families are physically and relationally secure, and that our jobs and reputations are invulnerable. For some, anxiety is constant, and the threat of danger seems ever-present.

I don't know that we can ever be totally free of the possibility of peril. Satan, the thief's, purpose is to kill, steal and destroy. (John 10:10) His name diabolos means to slander, falsely accuse, defame, malign or unjustly criticize to hurt, and condemn to sever a relationship. We live daily with forces set against us that influence situations and the behaviors of frail humans who inadvertently or intentionally hurt us. They may or may not actually have ill-will toward us. The devil is the father of lies. (John 8:44) Kingdom citizens are not struggling against flesh and blood, but against powers and spiritual forces in heavenly places (Eph. 6:12),  especially when you're doing God's work. So how do I protect myself? Sometimes you can't. God has to do it for you!

Proverbs 14:26, NLT states, "Those who fear the LORD are secure; He will be a refuge for their children."  The psalmist encourages us to, "Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken." (Psalm 55:22, NIV) Peter admonishes us to "Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares for you." Whatever you're going through today, God sees you, He knows, and He's working it together for your good. (Rom. 8:28) Relax. Security is found in Him.
